The wait for the 2026 FIFA World Cup anthem is almost over. Colombian pop star Shakira has released a teaser for her new song Dai Dai, confirmed as the official anthem for this summer’s tournament across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The full song, a collaboration with Nigerian singer Burna Boy, is set for release on May 14. The tournament itself kicks off on June 11 in Mexico City and runs through July.
What the Dai Dai Teaser Shows
Shakira posted a one-minute video on Instagram filmed at Brazil’s iconic Maracaná stadium to tease the upcoming track. In the clip, the artist is seen performing alongside a group of dancers at the same venue.
The short preview has already sparked a lot of buzz online, as fans have embraced the fusion of Shakira’s Latin pop vibe and Burna Boy’s Afrobeats vibe. The pairing is viewed as an intentional effort to reflect the diversity found around the world, a move inspired by this year’s tournament’s 48-team format.
No full lyrics or official music video have been released yet, but the Maracaná setting gives the teaser a grand, stadium-ready feel that points to a high-energy production when the complete track arrives.
Shakira’s History With the World Cup Stage
This is far from Shakira’s first involvement with football’s biggest event. Dai Dai marks her second official World Cup anthem, following Waka Waka (This Time for Africa), which served as the anthem for the 2010 tournament held in South Africa.
She also performed La La La (Brazil 2014) as the second theme song for the 2014 tournament, taking the stage at the closing ceremony in Rio de Janeiro. She also performed Hips Don’t Lie at the closing ceremony of the 2006 World Cup.
That history makes Shakira one of the most recognizable names in World Cup music. Few artists have had this level of sustained involvement across multiple tournaments, which adds weight to the Dai Dai release. She is, in many ways, the default voice of the modern World Cup era.
Shakira, 49, shares two children with former Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué, who was a World Cup winner with Spain. Her home country, Colombia, will also be competing at this summer’s 48-team tournament.
Burna Boy Joins a Global Stage
Burna Boy’s inclusion on the track continues a trend of pairing Western pop acts with African artists for major global events, a formula that worked well with Waka Waka back in 2010. The Nigerian singer brings an Afrobeats flavour that reflects football’s growing audience across the African continent, where the sport commands enormous passion.
Shakira is a four-time Grammy winner, and Burna Boy has his own Grammy to his name, making this one of the more decorated collaborations in World Cup anthem history.
With the full release just days away and the tournament less than five weeks out, Dai Dai is set to become the soundtrack of what promises to be a landmark summer of football.
