Young Wrestler Antim Panghal: The Medal Match & Key Moments

In the bronze medal match of U-23 World Champion, Young wrestler Antim Panghal faced Emma Jonna Denise Malmgren, who is from Sweden. Panghal dominated the entire match and ended the clash with a commanding 9-1 victory. She had a very aggressive approach at first half, building a 3-0 lead by halftime. Her tactics centered around her defensive work which restricted Malmgren’s attempts at leg attacks and turning strong counters into takedowns. In the match, Malmgren was penalized for passivity, which Panghal took advantage of and built further momentum. After adding more takedowns, including two in quick succession in the second period, she sealed the victory with ease.

Road to the Podium

Antim’s journey to the bronze was not always easy; she had frequent ups and downs. She began her campaign with a superior 10-0 win over Spain’s Carla Jaume Soler in the pre-quarterfinals. The quarterfinal match was much tighter, considering the final score of 9-8, she just edged past China’s Jin Zhang with a late decisive move. Although she lost in the semifinals to Olympic medalist Lucia Yepez of Ecuador, she maintained her confidence and competed for bronze. This is Antim’s second World Championships medal. Previously, she had won bronze in 2023. Her consistency at this level, especially in the 53 kg class, has become an inspiration to many aspiring young wrestlers around India.

Success Story and its Aftermath

Young Wrestler Antim Panghal’s medal is significant from multiple perspectives. With this addition, she becomes the second Indian woman after Vinesh Phogat to win multiple World Championship medals. Beyond her personal achievement, this bronze victory ensured India did not go empty-handed in Zagreb, and kept the country’s medal streak alive at the World’s. The streak has been maintained since 2018, and she made sure it went uninterrupted .

Antim, who had a disappointing first-round exit at the Paris 2024 Olympics, had huge pressure to deal in its aftermath. Her mental toughness at these times, especially her ability to recover emotionally as well as technically, was extraordinary.

Antim will set her bar higher competing for golds in major competitions like Asia Championships, World Championship, and Asian Games. Her technical prowess, her counterattack techniques, and defensive posture will be under radar. Her playing style will be studied so that the next season will be tougher as she will be competing in the 53 kg division globally. She has to maintain her discipline and consistency to keep proving her worth.

Writer’s Take

Young Wrestler Antim Panghal’s second World Championship medal is more than just another bronze,it is a recent proof of her growth and determination. Her ability to perform under pressure makes her stand out and compete with a clear mind. The margin of error is thin at this sport, her consistency and confidence throughout the game sets her apart. For India, this is not just about one athlete’s success, it’s about believing that Indian women’s wrestling has more chapters to write.

Watching her wrestling style evolve, from junior world champion to now a reliable senior medallist, was a very interesting journey. This victory made me believe that she’s no longer an underdog but a serious contender.
