Board of Control for Cricket in India Set to Tighten IPL Rules After Recent Incidents: Report

The Board of Control for Cricket in India is looking to impose stricter control measures and access restrictions for the Indian Premier League season underway. This follows a slew of troubling incidents during the competition at the highest levels of the board that drew serious attention to security and anti-corruption protocol issues.

A BCCI source confirmed the development, stating the board observed considerable indiscipline during the current edition and that steps were now being taken to address the situation directly with IPL franchises.

What Triggered the BCCI’s Decision

According to a BCCI source speaking to ANI, the board witnessed several incidents during IPL 2026 that it found deeply uncomfortable. The source said the board is now in active discussions with franchises to prevent any further problems during the remainder of the season.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia specifically flagged what he called anomalies and irregularities involving players, franchise officials, and outside individuals. The board observed instances of unauthorised persons accompanying team members, gaining access to team hotels, and even entering players’ and officials’ rooms. All of these actions are a direct violation of the tournament’s existing anti-corruption protocols.

Saikia also pointed out that certain franchise owners and officials were seen interacting with players inside restricted zones where such contact is strictly prohibited under tournament rules. The board considers these breaches a threat to the overall integrity of the league.

New Access Controls Being Put in Place

BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla, speaking from Lucknow last week, confirmed that the board was already working on framing new regulations to tighten player access across all team environments. These include hotels, team buses, and all other areas designated as secure zones during the IPL.

Shukla made clear that the purpose of these measures is to keep unauthorised individuals away from players at all times and to reinforce transparency within the league. The goal, according to him, is to strengthen the integrity framework that underpins the entire tournament.

The new measures are expected to bring in far stricter checks on who is permitted to enter these spaces and under what conditions. Franchises will be required to cooperate fully with the BCCI to ensure compliance throughout the rest of the season.

Disciplinary Action Already Taken This Season

Even before these new guidelines are formally introduced, the current IPL season has already seen disciplinary action taken against players and team officials.

Riyan Parag, the captain of the Rajasthan Royals, was slapped with a 25 percent match fee fine and a demerit point for vaping in the dressing room during a match against Punjab Kings. The incident was a big one, as Parag is the team’s captain and was expected to set the benchmark for the rest of the team.

In a separate case, Rajasthan Royals team manager Ravinder Singh Bhinder was fined one lakh rupees for using a mobile phone near the dugout during a game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Guwahati. Mobile phone use in that area is explicitly prohibited under existing IPL regulations.

The incidents have seemingly compelled the BCCI to speed up its efforts to improve its oversight. The board is clearly making a statement that this kind of thing will not be tolerated in the future, as there are still a number of games left in the season.
