Bangladesh Cricket Board Pulls NOCs for Mustafizur Rahman, Nahid Rana for Remainder of PSL 2026

The Bangladesh Cricket Board officially withdrew the No Objection Certificates for Mustafizur Rahman and Nahid Rana, pulling them out from the PSL 2026 on Thursday, April 23. Mustafizur is currently undergoing medical scans and a rehabilitation program to recover from this knee injury. Nahid Rana is resting to prepare for a major Test series against Pakistan in May.

These moves come after both players helped Bangladesh win an ODI series against New Zealand 2-1. Both players had briefly left their PSL franchises to represent Bangladesh in a successful ODI series against NZ, which was played in Chattogram. However, this is a blow for the Lahore Qalandars and Peshawar Zalmi; the BCB believes these steps are necessary to keep their bowlers fit for international cricket.

BCB Withdraws Mustafizur Rahman’s NOC on Medical Grounds

The star bowler Mustafizur had been playing for the Lahore Qalandars in the PSL before returning to Bangladesh for international duties. The BCB expressed concern over his physical condition after the third One Day International against New Zealand.

The official statement from the board confirmed that Mustafizur must undergo an immediate scan to determine the extent of his injury. Following the results of this scan, he will begin a structured rehabilitation program. The BCB medical team will supervise this process directly to ensure he is fit for future national commitments. Consequently, he cannot rejoin Lahore Qalandars for the rest of their season.

Mustafizur Rahman showed great form before this medical intervention. Bangladesh Cricket shared a post celebrating his outstanding spell. In the final match against New Zealand on April 23, he took a five-wicket haul. He only gave 43 runs in nine overs, helping Bangladesh win the match by 55 runs and the series 2-1. However, his previous knee injury concerns have forced the board to prioritise his long-term health over franchise cricket.

Nahid Rana Held Back for Pakistan Test Series

In a separate but related move, the BCB confirmed that fast bowler Nahid Rana will also not return to the PSL. Unlike Mustafizur, Rana is not currently suffering from a major injury. Instead, the board wants him to focus entirely on his preparation for the upcoming two-match Test series against Pakistan. Rana had been playing for Peshawar Zalmi before his national call-up.

The BCB believes that Rana needs adequate time to rest and train for the longer format of the game. The pacer was highly impressive during the ODI series against New Zealand. He took seven wickets across the matches and earned the Player of the Series award. Therefore, the board views him as a vital asset for the Test matches starting in early May.

The decision to keep Rana in Bangladesh shows the board’s new focus on workload management. By preventing his return to the high-intensity T20 environment of the PSL, the BCB aims to keep their best young fast bowler fresh for the ICC World Test Championship.

Bangladesh Cricket Schedule for May and June 2026

Bangladesh will host multiple top teams at home over the next two months. The Test series against Pakistan will be part of the World Test Championship cycle. The first Test will start from May 8 at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Dhaka. The second Test will start from May 16 at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Sylhet.

Following the Pakistan series, Bangladesh will host Australia for a white-ball tour in June. This series is important for securing a spot in the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. The ODI series begins on June 9, and the T20I series begins on June 17.

New T20I Squad for Series Against New Zealand

Bangladesh has also announced a fresh squad for the first two T20Is against New Zealand. This series begins on April 27 in Chattogram. The selectors have decided to rest regular pacers Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, and Nahid Rana for these opening games.

This rotation allows the board to test new talent, including Abdul Gaffar Saqlain and Ripon Mondal.

Bangladesh Squad for First Two T20Is:

Litton Das (Captain), Mohammed Parvez Hossain Emon, Tanzid Hasan, Mohammed Saif Hassan, Shamim Hossain, Tawhid Hridoy, Quazi Nurul Hasan Sohan, Shak Mahedi Hasan, Nasum Ahmed, Rishad Hossain, Shoriful Islam, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Ripon Mondol, Shaif Uddin, and Abdul Gaffar Saqlain.

Central Contract and Player Salaries

The BCB recently updated its central contract list for 2026, expanding the pool to 28 cricketers. Both Mustafizur Rahman and Nahid Rana are key members of this list. They both fall into Category B, which provides a monthly salary of BDT 600,000. Other players in this category include Mushfiqur Rahim, Mominul Haque, and Taijul Islam.

By paying these salaries, the BCB ensures that players are available for national duty first. This was also seen when the board limited the participation of other players like Rishad Hossain and Shoriful Islam in the PSL to ensure they were ready for the New Zealand ODIs.
