An American Airlines flight out of Harry Reid International Airport has created a social media storm after witnesses posted images of the plane’s engine spurting fire over Las Vegas.

Flight 1665 safely returned to Sin City Wednesday morning, with a leading Vegas social media influencer stating “all passengers survived and were given some Free Play:”

The plane departed Vegas for Charlotte, North Carolina, at around 8:11 am, with the incident taking place a few minutes later.
Mixed messages
Once it noted the fire, American Airlines Flight 1665 returned to Harry Reid arriving, according to the Federal Aviation Authority, at 8:20am.
While an airport spokesperson stated smoke came from the plane’s engine after takeoff, American Airlines reportedly stated that an inspection “found no evidence that the engine caught fire.”
Dramatic videos posted to social media told a different story, with X user Special Agent Haley Jackson sharing footage of fire and smoke coming from the plane as it passed overhead:
Las Vegas resident X user @MorePCThanIan stated he “heard the explosions over my house, no idea what was going on ran outside, then saw the plane, crazy.”
Gamble over Vegas
In April, the FAA reacted to counter risks to air safety over Las Vegas. what most people coming and going to Vegas via air travel don’t realize is that Sin City is one of the riskiest US cities to fly in and out of. The risk comes from collisions between air tour choppers and airplanes.
The feds, however, acted swiftly following an investigation prompted by fatal 2025 air disasters, and issued Harry Reid with new flying rules resulting in a 30% drop in collision alerts for Vegas flights.
