Nearly 60 Member nations have joined the campaign this year. Therefore, the World Cup is a moment that the entire cricketing community owns. The initiative is aimed to increase participation of women in cricket.
Nearly 60 Nations Join the Global Celebration
The second edition of this celebration is much bigger than the first one. Last year, 44 members took part in the event. Now, almost 60 countries from six different continents are involved. These nations range from Sierra Leone to Switzerland and Mongolia to Brazil. Therefore, the ICC Women’s Cricket Week has become a truly international movement.
The ICC Women’s Cricket Week was created to help every Member connect their local community to the World Cup. Participating boards will organise real-world events in their own countries. In return, the ICC will feature these local stories on its global broadcast and social media channels. This plan ensures that grassroots growth happens alongside the professional drama on the field.
Exciting Activities Planned Across Six Continents
Member countries are planning many different types of events to celebrate the game. These activities focus mostly on watch parties and participation events. Watch parties bring people together to view World Cup matches and increase awareness.
Meanwhile, participation events like festivals and competitions use the ICC’s “criiio” programme to get more girls playing.
Full Member Initiatives
Several major cricket nations have already shared their specific plans for the week. Cricket Australia are partnering with Northern Territory Cricket to host an all-girls social event. This event features colour-powder play and batting with water balloons to make cricket exciting for kids.
Sri Lanka Cricket will run coaching festivals for under-16 girls. These will take place across five districts and match the timing of the T20 World Cup.
Pakistan Cricket Board will engage more than 150 university students in Lahore. Furthermore, they will involve over 100 under-19 players in Karachi through coaching and matches.
Associate Member Participation
Associate Members are also very active in this global week. Special events are being held in countries such as Eswatini, Oman and Côte d’Ivoire.
The Nigeria Cricket Federation is taking the celebration of empowerment to two cities, Calabar and Kano. Cricket Uganda is also going to schools to grow the game among female students. These efforts indicate that cricket is reaching new communities every year.
Building on the Success of 2025
The first ICC Women’s Cricket Week in 2025 laid a strong foundation for the year. During that inaugural week, Members reported engaging 13,783 women and girls. Sierra Leone was particularly successful, as they accounted for more than half of that total. Over 6,500 people took part in activities there across all seven days.
The content from the first year was also very popular online. It generated 2.9 million video views and 14 million impressions. This high level of interest proved that fans want to see more than just professional highlights.
