Big news coming ahead of IPL 2026. Amid the players wishing to play for their favorite franchise, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder, R Ashwin, has recently asked his team for clarity regarding the team’s plan to utilize the player in IPL 2026. As per the different sources, R Ashwin has reportedly told CSK that he does not mind parting ways with them if he does not fit in their plans.
Ashwin was bought by CSK last year in the mega auction for INR 9.75 crore, where he played nine matches in total.
[TRENDING] Ashwin’s Request for Clarity from CSK
On his latest YouTube show, Ashwin opened up about how he has asked his current IPL team, CSK, for clarity on what their plans are for IPL 2026. Ashwin was one of the key bowlers for CSK until they released them and brought him back again in 2025.
Although his comeback in CSK was not as impressive as everyone expected, he is still considered the smartest spinner among all the bowlers worldwide.
R Ashwin recalled the memory with his former team Rajasthan Royals (RR), which gave him a needed clarity on what their plans were for the league in the next year.
He said, “After my 1st year at RR, I got an email from the CEO saying this is your performance, this is our expectation, and we’re renewing your contract.”
He further added that players have every right to learn whether they are being released or retained by the team.
He bluntly said, “Every player seeks clarity. As things stand, it’s not in my hands. I’ve just asked for clarity. The situation we’re in, all the news floating around, none of it is coming from the players. Even with Sanju’s news, it’s rumours or it’s coming from the franchise’s side. I don’t know who is making this news.”

R Ashwin’s IPL Career and Legacy
R Ashwin, as he used to be one of the key bowlers for CSK. His smart game player, blended with a skilled bowling style, made him a special spinner in the history of the IPL.
From the inaugural season in 2008, R Ashwin played for CSK and proved to be a key asset for the team, since he had the ability to pick wickets in crucial situations of the match.
His performance also helped CSK win the IPL trophy twice in 2010 and 2011, and he started becoming the face of the IPL from that year onwards.
During his entire IPL career, he played for five teams: CSK, RPSG, PBKS, DC, and RR, where he made much-needed impact for the teams, picking up wickets and contributing with the bat.

Writer’s Perspective
From my pov, R Ashwin’s demand for clarity from CSK for IPL 2026 seems to be relevant to me. As a player, you always need to be prepared for what’s next on whether they will be included in their future plans or not.
With this, the player can focus on key improvement areas or move on from the team if they do not fit into their plan.
I hope the CSK’s management will take this matter seriously and provide him a decision on whether they will be retaining him or not in the upcoming edition of the IPL.
