A Missouri man says he is guilty of a $1.5m embezzlement scheme that paid for his vacations and gambling habits for years.

The US Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Missouri (USAO-WDMO) has revealed that a man from Vernon County has pleaded guilty to a $1.5m embezzlement scheme.
According to a federal press release, Justin R. Marquardt, 55, confessed before US District Judge Greg Kays on Wednesday to one count apiece of wire fraud and filing a false tax return.
The USAO-WDMO took to X with news of the former executive director’s guilty plea:
Marquardt, whose role gave him access to corporate finances and accounts from 1994-2023, admitted to stealing around $1.5m from his employers by transferring the funds into his personal accounts via unauthorized checks.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation stated Marquardt spent the ill-gotten money on traveling, gambling online, and at casinos.Â
According to the feds, Marquardt is facing a maximum prison sentence of 23 years behind bars.
