Mohammad Amir has joined Nottinghamshire Club in the 2026 Vitality T20 Blast season. The club confirmed the news on Thursday, June 25, 2026. Amir will represent the Notts Outlaws as a local player rather than an overseas signing.

This significant change follows his recent acquisition of British citizenship and a UK passport. He is available immediately for the team’s next match against the Kent Spitfires on June 26.
A Major Strategic Move for Nottinghamshire
Nottinghamshire are currently second in the North Group of the 2026 T20 Blast. They have recorded three wins and three losses from their first six games. Consequently, the addition of a world-class fast bowler like Amir strengthens their bid for the knockout stages. Nottinghamshire shared a post on social media, welcoming the fast bowler to the team.

Amir joins the squad as a direct replacement for Afghanistan’s AM Ghazanfar. Ghazanfar withdrew from the tournament to manage his heavy workload. Because Amir holds a British passport, he does not occupy one of the limited overseas player spots. This allows the Outlaws to field him alongside other international stars such as South African all-rounder George Linde and Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Ali.
Why Mohammad Amir is Now a Local Player
The 34-year-old speedster officially became a British citizen last month. He obtained his UK passport through his wife, Narjis Khan, who is a British citizen. This legal status changes how he is registered in English domestic cricket.
Previously, Amir had to compete for an overseas slot. Now, he can play as a domestic cricketer. This status could significantly extend his career in the English circuit. Furthermore, his British passport makes him eligible for other global leagues, such as the Indian Premier League (IPL), which usually excludes Pakistan players.
Amir retired from international cricket for a second time after the 2024 T20 World Cup. He had played 159 international matches for Pakistan in all formats, taking a total of 271 wickets.
Career Highlights and Elite Statistics
Mohammad Amir has played 364 career Twenty20 matches and taken 425 wickets. His average stands at an impressive 22.63 with an economy rate of 7.36 runs per over.
His record in major tournaments is equally distinguished. Amir played a vital role in Pakistan winning two major international trophies that includes the 2009 ICC T20 World Cup, and the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy.
He has also found great success in English domestic competitions before joining Notts. He previously played for Essex, Gloucestershire, and Derbyshire. Notably, he helped Essex win the Vitality Blast trophy in 2019. More recently, he won The Hundred in 2024 with the Oval Invincibles franchise.
Reunited with Head Coach Peter Moores
The move to Nottinghamshire reunites Amir with head coach Peter Moores. The two previously worked together in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) with the Karachi Kings. Moores said he was looking forward to working with the left-arm pacer again.

Moores highlighted Amir’s ability to bowl during different phases of the game. He noted that Amir has the skill set to bowl effectively during the Powerplay and at the end of the innings, often called the death overs. Additionally, the coach praised Amir’s mental strength and passion for the game.
Amir’s Reaction to Joining Notts Outlaws
Amir spoke warmly about his new club upon the announcement. He mentioned that he has many fond memories at Trent Bridge, the home ground of Nottinghamshire.
“I want to keep the winning momentum going. I’m really excited to have joined Notts. I’ve heard lots of good things about this club,” Amir said in a statement. He added that T20 cricket is all about entertaining the fans and he will do his best to keep the crowd happy.
