The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) has announced that ProgressPlay Limited will have to pay a £1m ($1.3m) penalty due to social responsibility and anti-money laundering (AML) failings.
The company, that operates 134 sites, must also accept an audit from an independent third party down the line to ensure that it’s sufficiently introduced stringent policies, controls, and systems to ensure no repeat of the transgressions occur.
Some of the specifics the UKGC raised following the compliance assessment included ProgressPlay not sufficiently investigating certain potentially concerning transactions, not having a process to quickly identify if a new account could be suffering from gambling-related harm, and various failures with its customer interaction policies.

ProgressPlay previously had to pay a £178,718 ($240,702) fine in 2022 for similar issues. The latest violations occurred between August 2021 and August 2024.
Commenting on the case, UKGC Director of Enforcement and Intelligence John Pierce said that regular testing is vital to ensure that AML and social responsibility measures are effective. He labeled ProgressPlay’s issues “unacceptable” and called on other operators to learn from this case and improve their systems proactively.
This case is an example of the regulator escalating a fine for a repeat offender.
