Slovakia’s gambling regulatory body has specified that the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be subjected to increased regulatory oversight. To that end, all advertising connected to the event needs to uphold and comply with rigorous consumer protection laws.
According to the Gambling Regulatory Authority (URHH), operators must use this opportunity to promote their businesses as responsible gambling and not just as means of acquiring new customers through aggressive tactics.
Libuša Baranová, Director General of gambling policy, explained:
During the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Gambling Regulatory Authority will consistently monitor and evaluate the content of operators’ advertising campaigns throughout the duration of the tournament.
Baranova also stated that operators must include tools that promote responsible gambling such as self-exclusion programs, deposit limits as well as reiterating to their customers that they are indeed sending out messages on how to be a safer gambler.
The regulatory agency has confirmed they will conduct monitoring through all forms of media including but not limited to, television programming, digital media, social media and outdoor advertising to ensure compliance. Additionally, the gambling regulator stated there will be swift action to take against operators who violate gambling and/or consumer protection regulations.
